Perfect Brunch in Portland

Perfect Brunch in Portland

Getting ma brunch on.

Getting ma brunch on.

I hate brunch. There, I said it but hear me out! The thing is, when I’m hungry,  I don’t want long lines, or mobs of people. To break my fast, I don’t want a plate overloaded with greasy potatoes, overcooked bacon and carelessly cooked eggs. Instead give me beautiful nugget potatoes, delicious house made sausage, and excellent free-run eggs.

Portland is full of excellent breakfast and brunch places that are worth the wait, the mob of people, the noise and fuss. Sometimes though, I just want a quiet place to sit and enjoy my eggs and toast. If caesars or mimosas are involved, all the better. What is brunch if not for sip or two (or three) of the hair of the dog?

Tim and I went to Interurban on the recommendation of our AirBnB hosts in Portland. A quick follow up online seemed to confirm their recommendation so we went for it. Also, we passed several breakfast joints with 45-minute line-ups and after seeing this, I really didn’t want to start off my morning, really my weekend in Portland, like that. I was hungry, it was late Saturday, no line ups please, no thanks.

There was no line at Interurban. Just a sundrenched window seat, waiting for us to sit and enjoy our morning. Interurban is decidedly grown up but definitely not stuffy. Lots of old wood, the perfect place to hang out with friends.

We started off the morning with bright and lovely mimosas, made with fresh-squeezed orange juice. I enjoyed the Campfire Skillet which comes with choice of OP Ham, broccolini, or house-smoked steelhead (I chose the latter), potatoes, egg, sunny side up, onions, and sour cream. Timg enjoyed a breakfast sandwich with house-made boar sausage and a perfect, runny, runny egg with sausage gravy. Oozy, wet and sexy egg porn at its best! I am not always a fan of brunch but I am certainly a fan of a meal like this.

I’ve now read that Interurban Pub is actually quite bustling during its peak hours and they serve what looks like a rocking dinner (hand dipped corn dog anyone?). It’s a 2-story saloon and I can imagine it being a bumping, fun hangout on a Friday night with friends.

On that perfect, sunny Saturday morning though, the meal, the quieter atmosphere, my company, was everything I needed and more.
